HAPPY 48TH BIRTHDAY, MYP!!! By Tom Leavens

On Sunday, May 6, 1973, the FMYP (Flushing Module Youth Program) held its first event. It was called “Risk Day,” and later renamed “Search Day.” It was held at St. Michael’s Church in Flushing, NY. The General Theme of the Day was, “Christ-like leadership in the local teen community means ______________, ” with the “risk’ theme reflected in the talks. Team Members were Irene & Joe Roach, Ed Bradley & John Wuestman.

Unfortunately, we did not have Sign-In Book for this or any event in 1973. However, Joe had notes! There were six events: Risk Day (May), Wonder Day (June), MYP Picnic (Summer), Freedom Day (November), Retreat at Mt. Manresa (November) & Christmas Card Making (December).

At our 45th Anniversary Celebration, Joe & Irene spoke about our beginnings. Thank you for keeping the MYP going for 48 years, and get ready for our 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2023!!!
