“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)
At our MYP June Planning Meetings, the Team spends time to discuss & agree on a theme for our upcoming season. Suggestions are made based on current events, and what we experienced with the teens in our recent season. Current unrest in the world and our own upcoming elections led to discussions around peace. How great would our world be if we all took a step back, brought our conflicts to God, and really listened to what He is saying to us? I feel uneasy about all that is going on in the world today —but how do our teens feel about it? The burden is put on them to make the right changes for the future—their future.
This quote from Hebrews is particularly powerful. It’s a call to live in peace with everyone, and to be holy. Two big challenges for all of us to take on.
So, what are we doing to live in peace with each other? Are we listening to each other? Are we respecting each other for what we each believe? Mt personal challenge—am I leading with love?
What does it mean to be holy? Do others see me as holy? Do I want people to see me, know me, as holy?
We know that Jesus effortlessly lived in peace with the people of His time. His humanness is the clear example of holiness. And through all of His preaching and actions, He begs us to aim our lives to ‘see the Lord.’
So, MYP Community, we ask that you walk with our teens as they navigate with this theme as our guide. I think of the beautiful lyrics from the musical “Godspell:” We can build a beautiful city, yes we can—YES WE CAN. Please continue to support the MYP this year, especially with your prayers. Together, we can all live in peace & be holy to see the Lord in all that we do!
