On Friday, February 9, 2018, the MYP hosted Lent Day at Holy Trinity Church in Whitestone, NY. Gary McComiskey was the Rector for the event, with Team members Jean Bena, Cathy Bischoff Weinbaum, Tom Leavens, Megan McComiskey, Diana Roach & Dina DePaola. The theme for the night included preparations for Easter & the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. Three talks were presented (Tommy, Diana & Megan), each followed by activities including small group discussions, meditation & reflection. The event concluded with a Prayer Service that required the teens to respond, “Lord, guide us to good works” when presented ways of fasting from negative to positive ways. This event was effective for teens because it challenged them to experience a more meaningful Lent this year. The second activity was a meditation with a nail & we asked the teens to think about it in context to Christ’s crucifixion. After everyone responded, the Group leader said, “The nails of the Holy Cross have bound us by faith. By your sacrifice, O Lord, you have redeemed the world.” Please join us in this prayer this Lent as well!
