On Sunday, April 18, 2021, the MYP hosted Calling Day over Zoom Conferencing. The theme of the event was, “Like He did with His Apostles, Jesus calls us to be a role model for our faith.”
For the Icebreaker, the teens were given a list of names & asked to choose those that are the Apostles. Then, they were asked to create a “slide” with their name on it, personalized with their gifts/talents, interests, personality traits & symbols of themselves.
They were shown a video of Mark Hall, lead singer of the Christian rock group Casting Crowns, talking about the relationship between Jesus & Peter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu1KP5eQ6xo&t=65s ).
Diana Roach gave a talk about the calling of the Apostles and how Jesus is calling us as well. This led to another video for the song, “This Is Now,” by the Casting Crowns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3-XO-tmzdk&t=42s). The teens were sent to Breakout Rooms for Small Group Discussions. They were then asked to write a letter to Jesus, including how they have been called by Him & the challenges that they will face.
The event concluded with a Prayer Service that included a slideshow of their name slides & reading their letters to the Large Group.
The event was a great evening for the teens and Team Members. The letters were particularly powerful to hear—and this theme is a great lead into our Teen Retreat this month. It is so important for teens to know that God is there for them, and calling them to be the best that they can be—for themselves, others and the world.
