MYP 2020-2021 Theme: “Be Strong and Courageous. Do Not Be Afraid…” By Tom Leavens

With all the uneasiness in our world over the last few months, the MYP was able to complete our full 2019-2020 Season. We are so proud to continue our service to the teens of Northeastern Queens (and beyond), joining them on their journeys to better understandings of themselves, God & others.

Each June, the Team meets to evaluate the season (both positive areas & ones that need improvement), plan our schedule for the upcoming season, evaluate jobs & responsibilities and choose a theme from the Bible to inspire our work. I will share with you what has been decided in this newsletter.

First, what were the positive areas/events this year? We welcomed a group of 8th graders that brought such vitality to our work (we pray that they will continue to join us). Events that we were physically together (Christmas Day, GameNight, MovieNight) were fun & spirited.  Finally, our Zoom gatherings in May & June were great and challenged us to think outside the box creatively & spiritually. We will continue that enthusiasm until we’re able to be together again. What would we like to improve? We need to continue to find ways to reach teens. We would like to improve our Christmas Day experience by making it more impactful (this will require more research & outreach in our planning). Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to be better in our work.

Choosing our theme is always a highlight to our planning meeting. The Team spends much time sharing impactful Bible passages that we believe will inspire us in our work & inspire the teens in their own lives. Our theme for 2019-2020 was Philippians 1:27, ““Stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.” For our 2020-2021 Season, our theme is from Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong & courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you: He will never leave you nor forsake you.” There will continue to be challenges to the Team and our teens in the coming months: daily life in this pandemic world, family challenges, returning to school, socializing & connecting with each other. We need to keep an open connection to God to help us be strong for ourselves & for others; to be open about our feelings but know that He is with us! We will continue to pray for you – please keep the MYP in your prayers!
